If you play iPhone games regularly, you have probably tapped into noteworthy publisher Chillingo’s catalog. Minigore, another game Chillingo financed that boasts regular updates and characters. It’s cool to see a game publisher incorporate cross-over into the game’s narrative. Guerrilla Bob profiles its villains with a flair for cinematic introductions. One character, christened Johnny Boom, charges you grasping a barrel of flammable liquid in an attempt to severely damage your health bar–you can conquer him easily by shooting while walking backwards. Ba-ba-BOOM! Another is named Boris the Bullet, perhaps borrowed from Guy Ritchie’s fast-paced gangster flick Snatch. Regardless of its influences, playing Guerilla Bob too much fun.
The game has dual virtual joysticks–the left controls character movement, the right controls shooting and aim–that are easy to handle. Bob’s arsenal is limited, but effective. You get to shoot down John’s soldiers with a machine gun, rocket launcher, and flamethrower–all of which are designed to be effective in different situations.
Of course, no shoot ’em adventure (or Stallone flick) is devoid of boss battles. In Guerrilla Bob, you face main bosses and battle tons of lesser bosses. If you love the mindless mayhem of shooters, particularly those that use dual joysticks, you must check this one out.
