As previewed yesterday, Twitter today released a significant 4.3 update to its iPhone app. More surprisingly, and as substantial, Google+ now has a beautifully designed application for the iPad.
Let’s start with Google+, which is stunning. In fact, if you’ve been on the fence about going all-in on Google+ in the same way you are probably immersed in Facebook and Twitter, the iPad app is a beautiful showcase of the social network’s capabilities. Whereas sharing Google+ online and on other devices can seem forced, the articles and videos shared by your network pop out like a social magazine.
Says Google vice president of product Bradley Horowitz on a blog post:
The Google+ app for iPad was designed with the device in mind. Your stream styles content based on popularity, type and orientation. We’ve also added unique ways to interact with the app—lean back and try these out:
– Pinch and expand posts right in your stream to add your comments
– Use two fingers to drag a post from your stream to easily re-share it
– Start a Hangout from your iPad and stream it to your TV using AirPlay
Expanding tweets on small devices
The Twitter update, which also includes Android devices, unveils many of the things we told you about yesterday, including expanded tweets, live event features, search improvements and more flexible ways to manage push notifications.
