What if I told you there was an iPhone app that could whiten your teeth in photos with just a swipe of your finger? Would you download it? I know I would. The Colgate-Palmolive Co.’s app for iPhone and iPod Touch, Colgate Max White Photo Recharger, claims to do just that.
Too bad it doesn’t work. Now, I don’t mean that Recharger doesn’t whiten teeth enough. I mean that Recharger doesn’t whiten teeth even a tiny bit.
I swiped and swiped my finger over a test picture (my teeth, taken especially for this review), causing the toothbrush to brush up a storm. I “rinsed and recharged” again and again, each time a bright white burst appearing over my smile, but the only change I saw was an occasional white pixel in the middle of a tooth. Bummer.
Recharger also lets you add text bubbles and borders to your “whitened” images. The text feature isn’t user-friendly, and my text frames often would disappear. The app’s overall slow speed didn’t help matters, either.
Stick to the products you know best, Colgate-Palmolive—iPhone apps are not among them.
