Even though there wasn’t a big-name game release this week, there was no shortage of iPhone gaming news. Tony Hawk let it slip via Twitter that he has a new iPhone game in development, Square Enix revealed their intentions to release an iPhone RPG game and the wildly popular online multi-player shooter Eliminate added a co-op mode. But I digress; despite the lack of a big-name port or highly-anticipated sequel this week’s Top Five list of recently-released iPhone games is full of fun.
1. Gameloft Sports Pack
Super Turbo Action Pig (99 cents) is a pick-up-and-play endurance game that is about as basic as they come. You control a flying pig that is forced to dodge weapons such as spiked balls, butcher knives and missiles sent from the evil Butcher Bill. The 2D game only has one button — a turbo button that makes your pig go up, and you score one point for each weapon that you avoid. The graphics are cartoon-inspired and one of the better parts of this game. The downside is that Super Turbo Action Pig, which clearly aims to be simple, may be a little too much so for its own good. There’s only one game mode and I could see it getting old after a while; but for a 99-cent game, sometimes keeping you entertained for a short time is good enough.
