Getting something for nothing is always worth your time, and the Fribi app for iPhone and iPod Touch wants to be your go-to service for sharing and finding free items. The only problem for us here in North America is that there’s no-one on this side of the ocean using the service.
Fribi’s network lets users post items they no longer want but that would be of interest to others. Through the app you can post an item description, photos, and if you’re looking to simply give the item away or swap it for something else. Signing-up for the app took some work. I opted to use my email address rather than connecting with Facebook, but it took a hard restart of my device before the application would process this.
Fribi lets you track other users on the network to increase the odds of repeat transactions and also lets you create a wish list of items for which you’re looking. There’s a private function if you want to offer items only to your friends, but I’m not sure why you’d use this over a regular email or text message.
Although the app has a nicely laid out interface, its primary drawback is that there is not a single item up for grabs in the United States. Fribi does have an active user-base in what I believe to be Denmark—I couldn’t decipher the language being used in ads—but the app will need to do some serious promotion in the U.S. if it hopes to have the service catch on here.
