In today fresh iPhone games, check out a new update to popular and addictive jumping game Doodle Jump, a fantastic virtual set of cards for your iPad, plus a unique twist on a classic card game.
Doodle Jump update (iPhone) $0.99
Doodle Jump is considered by many to be among the best games on the iPhone, but while it is simple and addictive, it has lacked a lot of the standard features that show up in other games. Until now, that is.
Doodle Jump’s new update adds leaderboard features care of Apple’s Game Center service, so you can now at least track your scores against your friends, as well as all your scores over the history of playing Doodle Jump. The update also adds leaderboards for each of the game’s various themes, and you can download the Game Center app to track overall leaderboards for the game as well. There’s no multiplayer yet, but developer Lima Sky has mentioned that possibility, so we’ll keep an eye out for it in the future.
TouchDeck (iPad) $1.99
Lots of apps provide you with different card games, such as solitaire or war. TouchDeck is kind of brilliant in that it’s a games app that doesn’t give you just one card game — it gives you many by providing you with a virtual deck of cards. It’s a great idea, giving you all the benefits of all iPad card game apps, along with the freedom to play what you want. TouchDeck is as cool as owning a real deck of cards, without the bother of keeping track of them, picking them up afterwards, or dealing with them after they get all sticky from too many poker games.
Riese (iPhone) $3.99
Riese is kind of a dream app game for nerds. It’s a strategy card game for your iPhone with a steam punk theme, and features the voice of actress Felicia Day from the web series The Guild (which is a comedy show about players in a game similar to World of Warcraft).
Beyond all its superficial aesthetic coolness, Riese features 60 different cards and a single-player campaign as well as a two-player duel mode. A lot of time and inspiration has gone into the look and feel of Riese, which makes it seem like the kind of game that will pick up a dedicated fan base.
