Guide monkeys through space in 6th Planet, a game in which you help pilot an astronaut monkey’s lander pod by firing its various thrusters and trying not to get accidentally killed. It heads up today’s Fresh Games list, with TowrCraft, a high-fantasy tower defense game, and puzzler Collision Effect rounding out the entries. We’ve gone through and pulled out all the relevant tidbits on all three: check them out below.
6th Planet (iPhone) $2.99
A simple premise is at the heart of 6th Planet — you merely need to pilot your lander pod across 50 different 2D levels, avoiding walls and other surfaces in an attempt to get to the other side. It sounds simple, but your only means of controlling your pod are a few thrusters for left, right and vertical movement. With just these buttons and the physics they create, you’ll have to make it through tight caves and dodge asteroids to get to the landing zone.
You’ll explore six different planets in 6th Planet, and in between, you’ll be treated to cutscenes in the form of a motion comic book. There are 188 panel images in the story cutscenes, which amounts to roughly two whole issues in story for the game. In addition to all that polish, you also get achievement and leaderboard support through OpenFeint.
TowrCraft (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Orcs are invading what sounds like a pretty clear knock-off of the Lord of the Rings universe, but that’s okay — that’s the same thing that goes on in just about every high fantasy short. In TowrCraft, you need to defend your town by setting up defensive towers along the route enemies need to take to reach your inner sanctum.
TowrCraft has kind of a lot of features, despite being a member of a pretty familiar genre. It packs 28 different towers and 12 enemy troops for you to engage and destroy. The game has six maps and three kinds of magic skills you can use to turn the tides. You also get Game Center, fulfilling your TowrCraft experience with leaderboards and achievements.
Collision Effect (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Looking for a new puzzler? Check out Collision Effect, a simple puzzle game in which colored balls appear on your screen in a certain configuration. These particles come in several varieties, and to solve each puzzle, you have to get the ones of the same color to combine. This may seem easy, however — one click and the particles head on a straight line toward their counterparts, regardless of what’s in their way.
The real puzzles you have to solve are about getting all the particles to combine without touching each other: if two particles with opposite colors touch, it’s game over. So the game becomes about timing — tapping lots of particles quickly to get them moving at the same time and avoid hitting one another. It’s a simple but addicting game, and comes with full integration of Game Center for achievements and leaderboards, as well.
