The developer behind the uber-popular Tap Tap Revenge has a new game out – Green Day Revenge, which puts the well-known rhythm game interface to the music of the popular pop-punk band. Check it out below and download it if Green Day is your style. You may also want to read on about Bastards, a first-person shooter built on the same engine as the classic shooter Doom, and Stellar Escape, a running game with 3D graphics and some more innovative controls.
Green Day Revenge (iPhone, iPad) $4.99
Tapulous, the makers of the Tap Tap Revenge series, are back at it with another band-specific rhythm game to play on your iOS device. This time they’ve got 10 fan-favorite tracks from pop-punk rockers Green Day, including some of the band’s most famous songs; four of which are live recordings.
In Tapulous’ rhythm games, players tap along to the beat of various songs by tapping the screen when prompted by glowing bubbles that move down the screen. If you’ve seen Rock Band or Guitar Hero, you have an idea of what the Revenge series is like. Green Day sticks with this same play style, but the app also helps keep you up to date with band news and offers access to fan chat rooms, too.
Stellar Escape (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Fully 3D sci-fi graphics are the first thing you’ll notice about Stellar Escape, a running game that tries to change up the genre by featuring some fairly unique controls and obstacles. You’ll jump over and slide under, like in may games, as well as hop through certain objects or handwalk over holes in the floor using overhanging pipes.
Stellar Escape packs nine different levels into its campaign mode, as well as a high-scoring endless mode that comes with two unlockable difficulty settings. OpenFeint support allows you to share your high scores on the service’s leaderboards and earn achievements.
Bastards (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Built on the engine that powered the first-person shooter forerunner updated for iOS, Doom Classic, Bastards is an old-school FPS with an Old West story. As Boot McKane, you’re tasked with hunting down and finishing off the Bastards outlaw gang. What follows is a lot of cowboys shooting cowboys – which can be pretty great if you like the old style of shooter.
Bastards only includes three single-player levels, which is a touch scant but not bad for the dollar price of admission. You can also play online against up to three other opponents in Bastards’ multiplayer deathmatch mode.
