Hot on the heels of the phenomenal iOS conversion of NBA Jam, EA Sports has followed up with a mobile edition from its boxing franchise, Fight Night. Get the details on it on today’s Fresh Games list below, along with the likes of a big Dungeon Defenders update and Hot Springs Story, the follow-up to the acclaimed simulator Game Dev Story.
Fight Night Champion by EA Sports (iPhone, iPad) $4.99
Pit boxing champions against each other in Fight Night Champion, a brand-new iOS version of EA Sports’ Fight Night video game franchise. Champion focuses on the greats and lets you put fighters together regardless of era, like having Mike Tyson fight Muhammad Ali. You can create your own champion in the game’s deep Legacy mode, in which you play in tournaments and try to raise a character through the boxing world to take on the greats.
If your speed is more instantaneous than slow and methodical, you can hit “Play Now” and go into an instant fight with some of the champion boxers represented in the game. All the controls are touch and tilt-based — move around the ring by tilting your iPhone or iPad, and throw different punches by swiping and sliding your thumbs over different sections of the screen. Fight Night also includes a multiplayer mode in which you can use a local Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection to take on your friends.
Dungeon Defenders: First Wave update (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
The Unreal Engine-powered Dungeon Defenders combines two iPhone genre favorites — tower defense and action-role-playing game — into one beautiful multiplayer experience. The game supports up to four players working cooperatively to defend dungeons against monsters by setting up defenses and getting into the thick of the action themselves with one of four character classes.
Lots of new features have been added to Dungeon Defenders in an update that just dropped today. Developer Trendy Entertainment has added new missions in both the Campaign and Challenge game modes, as well as more weapons and equipment for players to find and use to strengthen their heroes. There are new pets and familiars to use in battle, and Trendy has added special “surprises” for high-level players, as well.
Hot Springs Story (iPhone) $3.99
Hot Springs Story is a simulator game with 8-bit graphics in which you manage a Japanese hot springs inn business on your iPhone. It’s the successor to Game Dev Story, a deceptively deep and addictive sim game, and Hot Springs Story has a lot of the same sensibilities, but with a more Japanese theme.
Unlike Game Dev Story, Hot Springs has you managing the facility to make your customers happy, so you’ll cultivate a Japanese garden, install an arcade, and add rooms and restaurants. Placing each facility strategically affects your score, as do other elements, like the quality of your garden. Expect to get lost building and customizing the perfect fictional Japanese business in this one.
