A pair of big updates lead our Fresh Games list today: one for Trenches, a World War I strategy game that adds multiplayer support to the game, and another for Sad Princess that brings retina support and a new game mode to the title. Read all about them and more below.
Trenches update (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
This side-scrolling strategy game lets you control English troops in World War I, as they do battle with German troops in cartoonish trench warfare. You issue orders, bringing out different kinds of units and directing them around the battlefield, in order to advance across and take out the German position. But your opponent is doing the same thing, so hunkering down in trenches and avoiding artillery fire is the key to victory.
Fans of Trenches are going to be excited about the new update the title has just received, which integrates Game Center support for an online multiplayer mode that includes VoiceChat capabilities. That’s right — you can now play against other live players, and you can talk to them while you do so.
Sad Princess update (iPhone) $1.99
Pound through hordes of enemies in this action role-playing game, which puts you in the role of a princess who apparently has boars and other enemies to wail on. In addition to all the fighting, you’ll also upgrade your princess’ weapons and items and even evolve pets to help you out with the bad guys arrayed against you.
A slew of big fixes come in a new update to Sad Princess, including the addition of retina display support and a new survival mode to change up the way you can play the game. It also saves your story mode data for multiple playthroughs, so when you fire up Sad Princess a second or third time, you’re challenged by tougher enemies than you were the first time through.
Ball Slam Fantasy Tournament (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Brick-breaking games aren’t exactly anything new, but Ball Slam Fantasy Tournament changes up the standard dynamic by allowing you to move your ball-bouncing paddle all over the screen, defending different locations rather than just the bottom. Various kinds of paddles are available, as are additional power-ups to help you crash through the levels filled with different kinds of bricks.
The “tournament” portion of the app refers to your ability to play in multiplayer games over Wi-Fi against human opponents. You can compete in two-player battles in three different game modes, including a time-attack mode and an arcade-style score mode.
