Casual games abound on today’s Fresh Games list. We’ve got a running game featuring a rainbow pinata that you have to help reach the finish line by drawing the track beneath his feet, a physics based slam-dunk contest, and a fantasy war in which your fingers are your best defense. Read about all three below.
Rainbow Pony (iPhone) $0.99
Lots of iPhone games utilize an 8-bit art style, but Rainbow Pony combines it with lots of colors and a goofy looking pinata horse to find humor in itself. This time trial racing game has you helping your Rainbow Pony run a side-scrolling course as fast as possible by directing it to power-ups and avoiding bombs. You don’t control the pony, though — instead, you draw the rainbow track beneath its feet, guiding it up and down the screen.
Rainbow Pony packs three game modes and a great look about it, as well as some addictive, hard-to-master gameplay. For a dollar, you’re getting one of those fun casual games for killing time — not extremely deep, but a good time for five minutes that you don’t have to commit to.
* Dunk It * (iPhone) $0.99
It’s a slam dunk contest. * Dunk It * is a fair clone of StarDunk, and in it you control four different characters as they try to make physics-based dunks. Your job is to choose their direction and power, and watch them fail miserably and fall to the pavement in bone-crunching agony.
* Dunk It * contains three different play modes — a timed mode, one called “100-Percent” that goes for accuracy, and “Around the World,” which challenges you from different positions on the court. It also uses Game Center support, providing you with achievements and letting you compare your abilities to other players’ and friends’ using online leaderboards.
PorkosWar (iPhone) $1.99
There’s an awkward-potato-character war going on in your iPhone, and the only way you can defend your castle from the onslaught of enemy troops is to tap away at them madly. They’re not defenseless, however — in fact, they’re quite well-defended and they know all about your tapping prowess, which is why they’ve brought armor and shields and the help of huge creatures to attempt to breach the castle and snatch victory right out from under your fingers.
You have a few secret weapons of the medieval variety, including oil, lightning and fireballs. Mostly, though, you’ll be tapping away madly for the highest score you can achieve in this casual game.
