Fresh iPhone Games for Jan. 12: Angry Birds Free, Clumsy Bob, Alice’s Fabulous Fall

We’ve got three new casual arcade titles for your perusal making up today’s Fresh Games list, and all of them are pretty addictive. Rovio Mobile has released a new free version of Angry Birds, complete with new levels, and fans of tilting physics games will have a good time with Clumsy Bob and the Alice in Wonderland-themed Alice’s Fabulous Fall. We’ve got all the details for you.

Angry Birds Free (iPhone, iPad) Free

Gotta hand it to those guys at Rovio Mobile — they know how to make apps that everybody wants. Angry Birds Free is yet another version of Angry Birds for free that isn’t a lite version that’s a sample of the full Angry Birds, but rather 12 new levels you can’t play anywhere else.

The app is ad-supported (so the Rovio guys are still making money off it — smart) and plays just like the rest of the Angry Birds offerings, except that it offers just a little more content that you can’t get anywhere else. If you haven’t taken the Angry Birds plunge, this is a great way to see if it’s for you; if you’re an addict already, I believe you know the way to the App Store.

Clumsy Bob (iPhone) $0.99

Think Doodle Jump, but sideways. Clumsy Bob is like a vertical jumper, in which your character endlessly bounces off little platforms, but instead of having to keep jumping endlessly upward, you have to endlessly jump sideways over a series of clouds. You’ll use the iPhone’s accelerometer, just like with most vertical jumpers, to control your aim as you try to hit the platforms and get as far to the right as possible.

As you go, you’ll pass angry mice that will try to eat you and hit clouds that give way as you touch them. There are power-ups like umbrellas and springs that let you float and send you higher, as well, and things get more challenging the longer you go. If you’re into the addictive endless genre of games, Clumsy Bob mixes the genre up a little, and it has an interesting and polished art style that makes it pretty engaging.

Alice’s Fabulous Fall to Wonderland (iPhone) $0.99

How’s about another interesting tilting arcade game? In this Alice in Wonderland game, you control characters that fall down the rabbit hole toward Wonderland (although they never actually get there). You’ve got to tilt your device to control Alice and others as they tumble down the hole, dodging things like teacups and chairs, and picking up power-ups along the way. If your character takes too many blows to the head, you’ll lose the game, so the trick is to attempt to hit stars along the way, but not much of anything else.

One cool aspect about the game, apart from its art style and Alice in Wonderland theme, is the game’s on-the-fly alterations of gravity. As you tumble down the hole, you’ll occasionally hit bends and have to quickly rotate your phone to accommodate the change. It keeps you on your toes as you replay the game’s many levels, trying to max out your scores for the Game Center leaderboards.
