Getting ready for the Academy Awards this Sunday? Check out Movie Challenge: Oscars Special, a movie trivia game that’s all about the event. It’s at the top of today’s Fresh Games list, followed by some big updates to a couple of well-loved iOS games. Read on for the ins and outs of all three.
Movie Challenge: Oscars Special (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Bone up on your Oscars trivia ahead of this weekend’s award show with Movie Challenge: Oscars Special. The trivia game packs more than 2,000 questions and three different game modes, including a pass-and-play option that lets you engage your friends in a Hollywood knowledge showdown.
The game features eight different question categories, as well as six different “mini-games” and game types to try out. It also saves your progress automatically, so you can return to the trivia competition if you’re interrupted, and a statistics viewer lets you note how your Oscar knowledge is progressing.
Time Geeks: Find All! update (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Time Geeks is a pop culture-inspired, time travel-based I Spy-type game with a great 8-bit style. Think Where’s Waldo, but with various objects and characters that you need to locate in a slew of objects and items in different scenes throughout time. Your job is to gather up the objects that are out of place, but you’re timed as you do it, so you have to act fast and try to locate the objects and people before time runs out.
A big update adds 20 more levels to Time Geeks, complementing the 150 already in the game, and a new game mode gives you access to all the challenges without the time limit restricting you. There’s also a new mini-game in which you search for differences in two images, and new achievements and leaderboards from Game Center and OpenFeint.
Tilt to Live update (iPhone, iPad) $2.99 (with $0.99 in-app purchase)
Think “duel-stick shooter” but without the analog sticks — that’s Tilt to Live, a game in which tilt controls are what you use to dodge enemies and blast away at them, in attempts to rack up the biggest score. Tilt to Live packs four game types, but is simple enough that you can pick it up and play anytime. It also includes an in-app purchase for its Viva la Turrets expansion, in which you control a stationary turret rather than a moving ship.
Tilt to Live’s update concerns the Viva la Turrets expansion, which now has a local co-op mode you can take on with a friend. It also has new co-op leaderboards to go with it, and developer One Man Left has pushed through some bug fixes to make the game run more smoothly in general.
