Need a new physics puzzler fix? We’ve got two new offerings to keep your iPhone or iPad warm. There’s Particula, today’s list leader, with a game that might get you thinking about high school science class as you get involved in its addictive play. Next up is Arrival, one of those physics puzzlers where you draw in the bridges and other objects between platforms for a ball to roll over. Get all the details on those, and more, below.
Particula (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Some physics puzzlers take the “physics” part kind of literally. Particula is one of those: it puts you in control of charged elements scattered around your screen. Each charged particle can shoot electrons off from itself — you aim and fire these electrons to try to charge other particles, while also hitting stars set between them in order to track up a high score. It sounds simple — it’s not.
The space between particles isn’t always clear, so you’ll have to employ negatively and positively charged magnets, some of which can be moved, in order to attract or repel electrons and try to help create a path to the othe particles. It’s an addicting game that really nails the physics part of “physics puzzler,” and it includes Game Center support for leaderboards and achievements, as well.
Arriving – Gravity Puzzle Game (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Speaking of physics and puzzlers, here’s another one for you. In Arriving, you have to help move a dinosaur egg around each puzzle level to gather objects representing energy. As the title suggests, Arriving is a gravity-based game, so you’re not controlling the egg, you’re taking care of the path. To do that, you’ll often need to draw objects — a line between two platforms, for example, that lets the egg roll from one to the other.
Arriving packs 40 challenging levels, and has support from both OpenFeint and Game Center to pack on the achievements and let you see where you land on the game’s leaderboards. It also supports iPod functionality, so you can play along to your own music rather than what the app provides.
Viking Tales: Mystery of Black Rock (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Take command of a Viking ship in Viking Tales, in which you’ll wage naval battles with other vikings, sail around the North Atlantic looking for things to loot and plunder, and do other viking-type stuff — like fish for herring.
Your primary goal is to explore, and as you progress further through Viking Tales’ 25 levels, you’ll reveal the game’s story and complete different objectives and tasks. It’s an interesting and simple game with depth in the number of things you’ll be doing in it, and the whole experience is capped off by a cartoonish, easygoing graphical style.
