A big update to side-scrolling platformer Pix’n Love Rush leads today’s Fresh Games list, and if you haven’t downloaded this fun, challenging and stylish little game, you really have no excuse now. Get the details below on it, as well as the very pretty looking vertical shooter Sky Combat, and the third installment of a game that has you eating everything the ocean (and the land) has to offer: Hungry Shark – Part 3.
Pix’n Love Rush update (iPhone) $0.99
Best known for its bite-sized platforming levels and cool 8-bit graphical style, Pix’n Love Rush just got a big update that adds a whole super-challenging game mode to the mix. “Cursed Rush” contains five huge, highly difficult levels that challenge you just to complete them — your score is measured in the percentage of how much of the side-scrolling, perpetually moving level you’ve completed.
If you’re not familiar with Pix’n Love, you really ought to be. It’s a compilation of really short side-scrolling platforming levels, in which you play a little monster that needs to grab positive ions, avoid negative ions, and dodge monsters whenever possible. Apart from the Cursed Rush mode, you can play the classic mode, which tasks you with getting as high a score as possible in a five-minute session — without dying. Pix’n Love is the quintessential iPhone games, and it’s addictive in the amount of fun it conveys in such a small package.
Sky Combat (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
A top-down vertical shooter, Sky Combat doesn’t try to reinvent its genre on your iPhone — but it does pack a high-quality graphical presentation to amp up the experience as you guide an Apache helicopter, armored humvee and gun-laden speedboat through its eight big levels. You’ll dodge around the screen and open fire on 30 different enemies and eight big bosses throughout the old-school arcade-style action.
Sky Combat provides you with leaderboards through Crystal, and three different difficulty modes on which to make a name for yourself. You’ll upgrade your weapons with various power-ups scattered throughout the game, and you get the option to shift between touch and tilt controls to find the scheme that best allows you to hit the highest scores.
Hungry Shark – Part 3 (iPhone) $0.99
The big selling point for this third installment of the Hungry Shark series: you get to attack an evil genius in his volcano lair. Because you’re a shark, see, and your only job is to eat things — even evil geniuses, but also regular boaters, people on oil rigs, and any random fish that gets in your way. The more you eat and the more carnage that ensues, the higher your score.
Hungry Shark – Part 3 packs 25 different enemies and animals to munch on, as well as 20 achievements and online leaderboards care of Game Center. It packs tilt controls for guiding your shark, but you can also switch to touch controls, if it helps you eat more stuff.
