One of my favorite games right now, League of Evil, just got a huge update that nearly doubles the content found in the game, all for free. That’s enough to put the side-scrolling, pixel-art platformer at the top of today’s Fresh Games list, but we’ve also got a couple of casual games to round out the list. Check them all out below.
League of Evil update (iPhone) $0.99
Less than a month since its release, the very challenging platformer League of Evil just got a free update that nearly doubles the amount of content it contains. It’s partially because of developer Ravenous Games’ cross-promotion with The Blocks Cometh by Halfbot — 30 of the new League of Evil levels (there are 48 new ones and 50 old ones) are themed after The Blocks Cometh, and they might be the best ones in the game to date.
League of Evil puts you in control of The Agent, a pixelated 8-bit hero who has to jump pits and avoid spiky death and military guys to reach evil scientists and kick their heads off. In addition to the 50 original levels and 30 new Blocks levels, League’s update packs an additional 18 “hardcore” levels, meant to be even more difficult than the very challenging ones already included in the game. Solid controls mark this one, making it one of the most addictive and fun platformers available on the iPhone.
Sticky (iPhone) $0.99
As a ball of sentient orange goo, you have a singular mission: save the world from the balls of sentient gray goo, who are toxic and also dangerous for some reason. In order to put the hurt on your drab counterparts, you’ll use an Angry Birds-like physics targeting system to sling-shot yourself like a goo-ball missile at the gray goo, bouncing off their heads to kill them.
If it sounds weird, that’s because it is. It’s also simple but addicting fun as you bounce around each stage, carefully aiming and connecting with the evil goo before it can escape into drains and get out into the world. As the name suggests, being sticky is a large part of the game — walls and ceilings coated in orange goo you can stick to, allowing you to get better angles and quicker responses to enemy good. The game also throws in power-ups, Game Center and Crystal support for online leaderboards, and achievements for good measure.
Ninja Ropes Extreme 2 (iPhone) $0.99
If you’re looking for a challenge, you’ve come to the right place. Ninja Ropes Extreme 2 carries a pretty simple concept — as a rope-slinking ragdoll silhouette, you want to get as far from the left to the right as you can. You do this by tapping various floating gears in order to sling ropes over to them and swing to the next gear in an endless recreation of Tarzan. Unlike Tarzan, though, if you touch the ground, you lose.
Staying alive as long as possible is your ultimate goal and it’s no easy task, especially since different areas near gears have different gravitational effects. Some areas might send you backward, or go swinging off wildly into the air with high momentum. Mastering Ninja Ropes is made even more fun with OpenFeint support, which lets you see how you stack up on its online leaderboards.
