Today you can try the new Starfront: Collision, a game that closely mimics the popular console strategy title StarCraft II. It’s available for free to download and sample, and if you enjoy it, you can get the full version for $6.99. Check it out, and a few other interesting games, in today’s Fresh Apps list.
Starfront: Collision Free (with in-app purchaes of $6.99)
Gameloft’s latest is a game a whole lot like Blizzard Entertainment’s massively popular StarCraft series. It’s a real-time strategy game in which you play as one of three different races who are all at war over a planet’s resources. You gather those resources and use them to create buildings and train units, then direct them around the battlefield to take on other units. It’s a game in which you play the battlefield commander rather than the soldier.
Starfront includes 20 campaign missions for you to play through and a multiplayer mode in which up to four players can wage war over the Internet or a local Bluetooth connection, across five different multiplayer maps. The game also has a mode called Skirmish that lets you jump right into a battle with the game’s artificial intelligence.
Zombie Runaway (iPhone) $0.99
Zombies aren’t always the ones doing the chasing. In Zombie Runaway, you play a zombie trying to make an escape through a cemetery. It’s actually an endless running game in which the running doesn’t take place over a side-scrolling horizontal screen: instead, your character runs in the foreground, with the background rushing toward him.
Using three virtual buttons, you’ll dodge back and forth as you attempt to avoid tombstones in the path ahead of you. The left and right buttons correspond to moving, while a center button lets you jump low obstacles. The further you can get, the higher you score, which is tracked on Game Center leaderboards and earns you achievements.
Volcano Escape (iPhone) $1.99
Platformer Volcano Escape has a pretty simple premise — escape the volcano by climbing, running and jumping in this 2D side-scroller. Local natives have thrown you into the fire to use you as a human sacrifice to appease a volcano god, and your only chance is to climb and shoot your way out.
Zapping enemies can create platforms to help you get over the lava, and the further you get, the higher your score becomes. You’ll come across lots of weapons to fight off enemies along the way, as well. You can also compare your progress and score to your Facebook and Twitter friends.
