Great Scott, iPad owners! Telltale Games’ Back to the Future Ep 1 HD is finally available, and if you’re a fan of the film trilogy, you’ll have a good time with this point-and-click game that includes collaboration with screenwriter Bob Gale and sees Christopher Lloyd lend his voice to reprise the role of Doc Brown. You’ll want to download it, along with the official version of The Blocks Cometh, a cool twist on the endless jumping genre, plus light-based puzzler, Infinight.
Back to the Future Ep 1 HD (iPad) $6.99
Marty and Doc Brown are back, care of Telltale Games, in a point-and-click adventure that nails the atmosphere and humor of the films, while telling a whole new time-travel story. You control Marty in 1986, after the events of the films, when Doc Brown’s estate is being auctioned off because the eccentric inventor has disappeared. Eventually Marty embarks through time on a mission to find Doc.
Telltale is releasing Back to the Future in five “episodes,” with each lasting about two hours. You’ll guide Marty around the screen with touch controls, and interact with other objects by touching them on the screen to solve puzzles. Screenwriter Bob Gale collaborated on the project, and it really does stay true to the fan favorite films from the 1980s.
The Blocks Cometh by Halfbot (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Halfbot’s official, totally un-stolen version of its Flash game of the same name hits the App Store today for $0.99, and it’s a thoroughly enjoyable, if somewhat maddeningly difficult, experience. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to find yourself trapped inside a giant game of Tetris and try to survive it, you’ve pretty much got the premise of this game.
The game is all about climbing as high as possible on the blocks that fall out of the sky toward your character. You can jump around and on top of them, as well as off the sides if you slide down them like a ninja, and you’ll endlessly climb upward to set new high scores. The game also packs OpenFeint for achievements and leaderboards, and interacts with League of Evil to allow you to play that game and unlock certain characters.
Infinight (iPhone) $0.99
A clever puzzler that’s all about light, darkness and amnesia, you play as a man lost in a deserted hospital during a storm. The power is out, and the only illumination is the small amount of light surrounding your character and the occasional flashes of lightning, temporarily casting out the gloom to show you a maze of emptiness, as well as the occasional horror.
Infinight is temporarily on sale at just a buck, and features a campaign mode as well as an online multiplayer offering. The campaign has 50 levels spread over five zones, each of which with different lighting mechanics, and the online mode is facilitated by Game Center, so you get leaderboards and achievements, too.
