The holidays might be coming to the end, but the App Store is still filled with cool games to download and play. Today we showcase three new titles that might catch your interest: including a new, improved installment to the Tap Tap Revenge series, a casual game that taps into the pyromaniac in all of us, and a huge iOS port of the landmark PC game Riven. Tap Tap Revenge 4 (iPhone) Free
This is latest sequel to the addictive rhythm game adds a lot of cool new features to the Tap Tap Revenge series. There are more than 100 free tracks in the Revenge library, plus lots more that you can buy through in-app purchases, so you’ll have plenty of music to tap away to as you play this Guitar Hero-style touchscreen game.
Another cool addition: the game now features a “like” button that lets you mark off your favorite tracks. Once you’ve marked a track, you’ll be able to challenge other players who’ve tagged the song using Revenge 4 to multiplayer battles. It’s sure to add a lot of quicker, more intense competition to the series as practiced players square off on what both could consider home turf.
Burn the Rope (iPhone) $0.99
Tilt and motion controls are king for Burn the Rope, a casual puzzle game in which you have to set things on fire, as the title suggests. The trouble is, physics dictates that the fire only burns upward, which means you’ll have to turn your device in order to set more sections of rope on fire.
You get 80 puzzle levels for your dollar entry fee, and they get harder as you go on. Sometimes you’ll encounter bugs that react differently to flame, as well as ropes that can only be burned by flames of varying colors. There’s a lot of iPhone puzzle work to keep you busy for your money.
Riven: The Sequel to Myst (iPhone) $5.99
Riven was a big deal on the PC years ago, with a large and expansive game world that players explored in a point-and-click adventure. There’s a big, immersive story here — reflected in the fact that the game weighs in at about a gigabyte of data, and will take lots of time to download.
In bringing Riven to iOS, developer Cyan Worlds has added a number of specific improvements, like a bookmark save system, hot-spot hints to help progress through the story, touch controls for panning around the game world and the ability to zoom on anything for more detail.
