Back when Nintendo, Atari and Sega were the kings of the video game console world, there was TurboGrafx-16, a 16-bit system in the land of the 8-bit. It had a mess of interesting games, and today, those games are starting to become available as ports on iOS devices.
The TurboGrafx-16 GameBox — basically an emulator for the old system — includes 16 of the system’s old games. One of them is free: World Sports Competition by HudsonSoft. The rest are games available through in-app purchase, including Gradius, R-Type and Bomberman ’94 for $2.99 each. The app also includes a saving system so you can continue your games later, and featured demos so you can try games before you buy them.
Pocket God update (iPhone) $0.99
The newest episodic update to hit Pocket God, a game in which you use the iPhone’s accelerometer and touch screen to exercise god-like powers on the pygmie inhabitants of a small island, has just become available. That makes 36 total episodes added to Pocket God since its release.
The newest addition to Pocket God is Konky Dong, which, as you might guess, emulates the Nintendo classic Donkey Kong. By placing a pygmie in the grip of a gorilla statue, players can access five levels of Donkey Kong-style action. You can move your character right or left by titling your iPhone, jump by tapping the screen and climb by holding in certain spots on the screen. During your ascent, you’ll be faced with tumbling boulders and deadly beetles, which you’ll have to jump over just like in the original arcade classic.
ChuChu Rocket! update (iPhone) $0.99
The newest update from Sega to ChuChu Rocket! allows for as many as four people to engage in online multiplayer in this puzzle game based on the Sega Dreamcast title of the same name. The game has also added retina display support to its repertoire.
In ChuChu Rocket!, your task it to guide mouse-like ChuChus in their escape from evil KapuKapus — cats, basically — through 145 grid-based puzzle levels. It includes four different difficulty levels, three game types and full Game Center support for leaderboards and achievements to go with the multiplayer mode.
