The classic board game Monopoly gets the iPad treatment to head up today’s Fresh Games list. It’s full of cool features for fans of the original, without any chance of losing all the hotels under the couch. Read all about it, and a few other interesting games, in our list below.
Monopoly for iPad $9.99
If you’re imagining a virtual version of Monopoly on your iPad, you’re pretty much exactly right. Monopoly basically transports the game to your iPad’s screen, and even includes a tabletop mode so that you can play with friends and family as if you were using the board game — except easier, and with a lot less to clean up afterward.
The app also features a teacher mode, in which the computer AI teaches you tricks and gives tips to make you better at the game; an AI player mode so that you can get into the game even if you don’t have anyone else to play with, which features various difficulty settings; and you can play in multiplayer modes with others over a Wi-Fi connection, even if the people you want to face-off against are using Monopoly on the iPhone or iPod Touch.
NeoDefender 2 (iPhone, iPad) $0.99/$1.99
In a combination of Space Invaders, retro wireframe shooters like PewPew, and stationary turret defense, NeoDefender 2 has you blasting away at enemy spaceships as they slowly draw closer to you — your only defense is a good offense. You’ll have to keep firing away with touch controls if you want to survive.
In addition to just blasting away at kamikaze aliens trying to take you out, the game also includes role-playing game elements that have you upgrading your ship and weapons, adding some additional depth to your endless blasting.
Miro: Color the World! (iPhone) $0.99
The object of Miro is just to complete each level as quickly as possible, but to do that, you have to get pretty active with your iPhone. You control a Miro, a small little round ball that colors the ground as it rolls on it. In order to get around, you have to tilt your iPhone in various directions and use physics to drive the little guy. But the objects you’re rolling on aren’t flat, they’re round and free-floating — meaning you’ve got to go all the way around them, and your iPhone has to go all the way around, too.
You’re scored by your ability to cover the whole object — the video shows you outlining a huge stuffed dog — as well as the speed with which you do it.
