Tactical booger-flinging and just tactical thinking are on offer in two of the games in today’s Fresh Games list. Gobtron is up first — a take on the castle defense genre that involves fighting off enemies with bodily functions. That’s followed by Look Again!, a brainteaser game that’s all about identifying shapes and patterns, and Great Little War Game, a top-down, cartoonish take on turn-based strategy.
Gobtron (iPhone, iPad) $1.99
Gobtron is a huge pink creature, and you’re controlling him. The monster lives peacefully enough, but being huge and pink, the creature draws some unwanted attention from the local human population — which is bent on trying to destroy it. As Gobtron, you’ve got to defend yourself through the ages against humans ranging from cave men to more technologically advanced enemies.
Your secret defensive weapon as Gobtron: flinging boogers and ripping burbs in the direction of your tiny human adversaries. You’ll have to ward off enemies for 18 levels using six different abilities, which you can upgrade over time to help you fight.
Look Again! (iPhone, iPad) $1.99
Marrying simplicity of from with some brain-bending challenges is Look Again!, a game that provides 250 brain-teasing puzzles in which players have to look at different line drawings and determine what the patterns are that went into creating them. Randomly generated puzzles mean you’ll always get a fresh challenge.
Look Again! builds its difficulty over time, so the longer you go through its 250 levels, the harder the whole experience becomes. There are also 10 different image packs included with the game, and each pack has 30 line drawings included within it. The point is, there are tons of puzzles to solve in Look Again!, and if you’re into that, it’s two dollars well-spent.
Great Little War Game (iPhone, iPad) $2.99
A hexagon map is laid out before you in Great Little War Game, a turn-based strategy title in which you’ll command your troops and send them into battle. Everything is a tactical decision, from where you deploy your troops to what targets you attempt to capture or destroy. Great Little War Game is all about choosing the right strategy for the situation at hand.
Great Little War packs an interesting, cartoony graphical style to go with ordering soldiers into battle. Developer Rubicon also pledges to supply the app with lots more maps and campaigns in the future, so you’ll have plenty of tactical situations to plan.
