The game uses some arcade tilt controls to get your blasting through long tracks of destroyed cities, putting together some intense graphics with tough racing action. The apocalypse has come and gone, and now there’s only one thing to do: Race through destroyed cities and desert landscapes littered with cool things to look at, like chunks of the Statue of Liberty. Race After 1977 puts you behind the steering wheel of a racer just looking for a place to live with food and a lack of heavy background radioactivity. So you compete in a big racing tournament, the grand prize for which is the coordinates of just such a place.
Racing is done by tilting your device and Race After 1977 packs some arcade-like loose steering that will take some skill to master. You’ll have nine 1970s vehicles to unlock and master by completing races, and 10 long tracks featuring 3D graphics on which to compete.
Skydiver Drop Zone (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Put your reflexes to the test with Skydiver Drop Zone, a game in which you need to use split-second reaction times to deploy your shoot and nail your skydiving target. The game has some pretty simple controls: first, touch and hold on the screen to freefall as quickly as possible, then let go at the right moment to deploy your chute. The key is in paying attention and going as fast as possible to grab points on your descent.
Once you open your chute, you’ll need to tilt your device to attempt to hit the landing zone. The closer you get to the bullseye, the better your score. You get Game Center support with Skydiver Drop Zone for your buck, which includes achievements to unlock and leaderboards to climb.
On A Tilt (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Tilt your iPhone or iPad all over the place in order to score points and rack up time in On A Tilt. The whole premise of the game is to keep your iPhone moving, tilting to send indicators on the device’s screen into specified zones that will earn you points. Find the spots by tilting fast and you’ll score fast points — take too long, and your time will expire, handicapping the number of points you can earn.
Before long, you’ll have to get more skillful with your tilts; you’ll have to tilt on two different axes to clear zones, or move your device along with the score zones as they move slowly across the screen. Sometimes the scoring sections will shrink, requiring additional precision. Game Center leaderboards will track your score along the way.
