1. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
The notoriously popular Grand Theft Auto series is now on the iPhone with Grand Theft Auto: China Wars. The $9.99 game puts you in the role of Huang Lee, and your mission is to traverse the Triad gangs of Liberty City in order to deliver an ancient sword to your uncle Kenny. As there is constant violence and suggestive content throughout (your character starts out bloodied and left for dead), GTA: China Wars is only available to the 17+ crowd.
2. Nike Football+ presents: Master Accuracy
In anticipation of FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa this summer, Nike has released a new training app for aspiring soccer savants. The free Nike Football+ presents: Master Accuracy iPhone app offers a four week training program, complete with video tips from Italian footballer legend and Juventus manager Ciro Ferrara.
3. Yelp Update
With a brand new update, local review site Yelp “checks-in” with the latest craze in location-based mobile applications. The free Yelp 4.0 iPhone app, similar to Foursquare and Gowalla, enables users to update their friends while visiting local establishments. The corporate path for Yelp is moving in mysterious ways. After turning down a $550 million offer from Google, TechCrunch reports that Yelp has raised more money from Bono’s venture capital firm Elevation Partners.
4. Alice.com
There’s a new app in town, and it’s looking good for consumers of toothpaste, toilet paper and a variety of other household products. The free Alice.com iPhone app is a mobile extension of the website that launched last June and offers free shipping and 50 daily deals for routine products that should stay awhile.
5. BarMax CA
Talk about setting a new bar for iPhone apps! While BarMax CA might not be for everyone, the bar exam training app is significant for its $999.99 price point. Developed in part by Harvard lawyers, BarMax is competing against costlier workbook-based programs with hundreds of sample questions and lectures available at a touch of a screen.
