Today’s apps are all about staying connected with friends. They help manage your friends, sync up their avatar photos from the Internet and see what they’re purchasing – and what you might like to buy, too.
Blipped (iPhone), $0.99
Blippy.com is a social networking site that allows its users to share their purchases with one another as a way of finding cool new things to buy. You can connect it to websites such as Netflix and Woot.com to share the things you’re checking out and purchasing.
Blipped is Blippy’s resident iPhone app, and includes a lot of the functionality of the website. Its major functions are to post and review purchases on the fly, or to check out resources such as reviews while you’re in a store. If you’re already a Blippy.com user, Blipped adds a lot of on-the-go options to your repertoire.
GravatarSync (iPhone), $1.99
On firing up GravatarSync, the app checks through your contacts and the Internet to see if they use a “Gravatar” – a photo avatar that the Gravatar service transfers to every site where that person enters information, leaves a comment, or performs other similar actions.
The price may seem a little steep for an app that’s main purpose is to sync avatar photos to contacts, but then again, a person’s Gravatar is meant to be an online identity, so for users of the service, $1.99 is probably not a lot of money.
Group Mail HD (iPad), $1.99
On the e-mail side of things is Group Mail HD, which allows users to manage their e-mail contacts on the iPad by organizing them into various groups. It streamlines your ability to send bulk mails to friends and family by making it quick and easy to hit all the people you want with a certain message, without having to manually input all those addresses.
