Keep up with where your friends are this weekend with Find My Friends, an app that leverages Apple’s new iCloud service to help you and your friends and family stay connected and easily find each other. If you’re planning a road trip, make sure to bring along RoadNinja. It’ll help you find great places to stop by including information about 30,000 highway exits from across the U.S. In games, Monsieur Monsieur is a physics game/platformer that Angry Birds fans might find a bit familiar but also fresh, and zombie apocalypse fans should get a kick out of zombie-bashing massively multiplayer online title Please Stay Calm.
Find My Friends (iPhone, iPad) Free
Find My Friends uses iCloud functionality to make it easy to stay connected with your friends and family. Once you download the app (and your friends do too), you can sign-in with iCloud and start sending out Find My Friends invites. When they accept, you’ll get a list of your friends that can show where they are.
The app is handy for parents keeping track of kids getting home from school, or when you want to meet up with your friends when you’re out and about. It includes easy to set privacy controls, and Find My Friends also includes parental controls so kids can use it safely.
RoadNinja (iPhone, iPad) Free
Grab RoadNinja next time you decide to take any kind of long car trip. The app helps you make decisions and plans about where to take your next bathroom break, grab gas or stop for lunch. It zeroes-in on your location using your device’s GPS capabilities, then brings you information about nearby exits so you know where to get what you need.
RoadNinja is designed mostly for interstate road trips. It contains information about 30,000 exits in the U.S., with more being added all the time. It also has the capability to share information about places on Facebook and Twitter. You can also add reviews and ratings to businesses at exits to help out other travelers.
Monsieur Monsieur (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Physics game Monsieur Monsieur might remind you of Angry Birds, but it’s more like Angry Birds if you were controlling just one bird as it moved through a level. In Monsieur Monsieur, you fling your character around by pulling on and releasing his mustache. The spring action sends him flying to collect things like tea bags and sausages to score points, before reaching the goal of each level without falling off the side.
You can fling Monsieur Monsieur up to three times while he’s still in the air, so you’ll need quick reflexes as well as a good eye for the power and acceleration each mustache-shot will bring you. You’re scored by how many items you can pick up and how many mustache shots it takes you to complete each stage, and you can compare your skills to other players using the Monsieur Monsieur’s Game Center leaderboards.
Please Stay Calm (iPhone, iPad) Free
A massively multiplayer online game that’s all about surviving the zombie apocalypse, Please Stay Calm takes notes from games such as Mafia Wars. You’ll investigate buildings with flashlights, looking for supplies, and fight zombies by choosing your weapons and slugging it out in turn-based combat. Every action you take requires energy, though, so you’ll have to wait for it to recharge (or pay for more) if you take too many actions.
Please Stay Calm uses your device’s GPS capabilities to let you “investigate” the areas around you, and simultaneously check in with Foursquare. You can upgrade weapons and buy and sell supplies, and the game supports a global chat feature that lets you talk with your fellow survivors in real time.
