Newsheads would be wise to check out two great new iPad and iPhone apps we’ve found today, while social network-ites should take a look at the update for Hellotxt, a crazily deep social networking portal app.
60 Minutes for iPad $4.99
Fans of 60 Minutes on CBS will want to grab this app, because it has one very interesting feature — weekly behind-the-scenes videos that show the ins and outs of the production of the acclaimed news show, in addition to all the journalistic content that goes with the show’s broadcast.
The app also basically turns your iPad into a 60 Minutes video viewer, filling it with stories from the most recent 60 Minutes episodes. You can also search through the video archives of the show to access old stories from past episodes, and watch them all within the app wherever you are.
The Economist (iPhone, iPad) Free
You need to be a subscriber to The Economist magazine to benefit fully, but this app is still packed full of content, even if you don’t choose to pay for it. Each week, The Economist gets updated with a mess of “must-read” articles from the magazine that are all available to read straight out of the app, along with full audio of every article read by real newscasters.
And if you do subscribe to the magazine, you get the entire issue in digital format every Thursday when it goes live on newsstands.
HelloTxt update (iPhone) Free
This massively expansive social networking app connects you to all kinds of portals, all from one app. You can hit up Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Foursquare — even WordPress, all from the same place. It includes augmented reality features to see what’s around your location, and lets you read content from many different sites.
Hellotxt’s recent update adds some interesting features, like the ability to “doodle” for status updates, and to draw on Facebook photos and post them to your Wall. The app also now features a bunch of native language translations, including Dutch, Italian, Spanish and French, opening it up to a ton of new audiences. Social networkers, download this free offering — it does way too much cool stuff not to be your go-to iPhone socializing app.
