We’ve got a few apps specifically geared toward soldiers for Veterans Day. One helps vets find local veteran-owned businesses, discounts and information, and another helps vets combat post-traumatic stress disorder and monitor their mental health. Take a look at them below, as well as an app to help all of us with holiday tech shopping.
ForVeterans (iPhone) Free
This looks to be the app all vets should download right now. It’s free and includes a wealth of information from ForVeterans.net, including news for veterans, discounts and lists of veteran-owned businesses. You can also find out about vets’ benefits and services from the app.
ForVeterans has some added cool features that go beyond just giving out information for consumers, however. Another section of the app allows vets to sign up for a blogging space and join the ForVeterans community, where they can share their stories with others.
T2 Mood Tracker (Android, iPhone)
The Defense Department recently announced the release of the T2 Mood Tracker on Android, and its iPhone counterpart will be following in the coming months. The app is meant to help soldiers and veterans self-monitor their mental health and keep track of their moods and behaviors after a deployment.
The app helps soldiers and vets to monitor themselves for post-traumatic stress disorder, and will generate graphs that make it easy to track mood and well-being over time. And T2 is also preparing to release Tactical Breathing Trainer, an iPhone app that will help soldiers, vets and the general public use breathing exercises to deal with stress. That app is set to drop in the early part of next year.
CNET Reviews (iPhone) Free
The guys at CNET spend a lot of time with tech products, figuring out which ones are worth your money. So they put all that information into an iPhone app and made it searchable, so you can take it with you on your shopping trips for the holidays.
Every review CNET has on its website is available in the app, and you can use your iPhone’s camera to scan product barcodes while you’re in stores to quickly find the corresponding review. You’ll also get access to buying guides and videos on new products to get an idea of what they’re like before you purchase them.
