Get ready for the weekend with today’s leading fresh iPhone apps. Reallymet makes social networking a little more personal by limiting your friends to people you’ve actually met. Our second app could also be useful this weekend: Pizza Finder, which does exactly what you might think. In games, GRave Defense HD offers old-school tower defense (and zombies), and Monkonomix brings a monkey-themed puzzler that mixes touch and tilt control elements.
reallymet (iPhone, iPad) Free
Social networking app reallymet is meant to help users streamline their online friend capacity. Unlike social networks like Facebook, in which many users have huge friend lists of people that they don’t see frequently or even really know very well, reallymet is a network of people you’ve actually met. When you meet someone new, you “check-in” with that person (and they with you) to log the meeting and become online friends.
With every person you meet or place, you increase your “social status level”, adding a bit of a gaming element to your social networking. Even if you aren’t meeting anyone, you can also use reallymet to see who your friends are meeting and where they’re hanging out, just like with other social networks.
Pizza Finder (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
This one’s pretty straightforward. Pizza Finder helps make it happen. The app makes searching the area around you for a pizza place easy. It uses your iOS device’s GPS capabilities to find your location, then searches the area for pizza restaurants nearby and shows them on your device’s maps. Then you get all the capabilities of your normal map app, including seeing satellite or hybrid views.
Pizza Finder also provides all the information you need to get pizza to you. Tap any of the pizza places shown on your map and you get info like the address and phone number. From there, it’s quick and easy to place a carry out or delivery order or just head over and start eating.
GRave Defense HD (iPhone, iPad) $2.99
After nuclear war, the survivors of humanity are locked in an endless struggle with all kinds of mutants, monsters and zombies that want to eat them. To keep the humans alive in tower defense title GRave Defense HD, you’ll deploy miniguns, cannons and lots of other weapons in each of the game’s levels.
GRave Defense HD includes both a campaign mode and a survival mode to play through. You’ll get 15 towers to use against 23 varieties of zombies. It also includes an online leaderboard system that allows you to see how your abilities stack up against other players, and achievements you can earn along the way.
Monkonomix (iPhone) $0.99
Puzzler Monkonomix has a bit of a strange premise. You’re tasked with collecting gems of various colors made up of different triangles. In each level, you have to draw gems of the correct sizes and drop them into your monkey’s glass container, in an attempt to get the correct value of gems. The faster you can get the right values with the fewest gems, the better your score.
In order to increase the value of your gems, you can fracture them, so you can use fewer gems to reach the right marks. But increasing their value also makes gems more fragile, which makes them break more often when they drop into the container or other gems drop on them. Monkonomix includes 30 levels, each with different requirements, and you’ll need to use tilt controls in order to direct where the gems fall in your container.
