swAlarm (iPhone) $0.99
This is an app that replaces the alarm clock app that comes with your iPhone straight out of the box, but it has some cool features that make it worth ditching the free one you already own.
For one thing, swAlarm lets you use your own songs or podcasts as the audio that plays to wake you up in the morning. In an interesting twist, the alarm can’t be switched off until you answer a few quiz questions, proving that you’re actually awake, which should minimize your ability to accidentally fall back asleep. It includes a timer function as well.
Blabr (iPhone) Free
Blabr provides you with the ability to send short audio messages to friends or straight to social networking sites like Twitter. It basically allows you to send something equivalent to a text message, but in audio.
There’s not much else to the app, but it does keep things very simple and fully free, which is nice. It only has two buttons — record and share — so you’ll be up and sending audio messages almost immediately.
Find a FaceTimer (iPhone) Free
Webcam users may have heard of Chat Roulette. It’s a service that allows people to use the Internet to find another webcam user at random. Chat Roulette isn’t without its dangers (random video chat can often mean random horrible full-frontal nudity, for example), but it also allows people to connect without knowing what they’re going to get, so it’s an interesting concept.
Find a FaceTimer runs under a similar principle, but it uses your iPhone 4 and FaceTime to find other people who use the app at random and connect you with them. So while it allows you to find new people and have some very interesting conversations, it also includes all the same dangers. Use with caution.
