The third Transformers movie opened to some pretty big success, and the Transformers Dark of the Moon Mix & Match Book brings the story of the film and its epic robot battles to your iOS devices. The app is an interactive children’s book that includes several scenes from the movie, along with text to go with them that the app reads aloud for kids.
Each page of the Mix & Match book is divided into three parts, which can be mixed up with other pages with a swipe. You can mix the images of the Transformers together as well as the text, which gets read aloud to allow kids to make up their own variations on the story. It’s a cool way to both tell the story and help encourage kids to get into reading, since the read-aloud feature can be switched on and off.
Tetro Mania (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Puzzle game Tetro Mania gets addictive in a hurry. The game is easy enough to play, but gets challenging pretty quickly. In each of the game’s levels, players are presented with a blank space and several Tetris-style objects made out of squares. The goal is to fill the empty space with the right combination of objects, covering every part of the empty portion while having no overflow.
Each puzzle is scored based on your efficiency with pieces and Tetro Mania includes 100 levels to work through. As you get into the more challenging levels further on, you’ll be racing the clock to make the right decisions and figure out the answers to each puzzle.
ChocoRun (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Much like other 2-D platformers in the App Store like League of Evil, ChocoRun is a pretty challenging game that requires precise timing and a lot of skill to defeat. It’s deceptively simple: your character, a square thing that looks like it could be made out of chocolate, heads from left to right until something like a wall gets in his way. Your job is to get him to the end of each level by making him jump by touching and holding on the screen to charge up the jump’s strength, then letting go. Your character can scale walls by jumping off them when he touches them, both changing his direction and allowing him to climb.
Along the way, you’ll have plenty of hazardous spikes to dodge. Each stage requires you to carefully make your way past spikes and climbing up walls in order to collect a key that opens the level’s exit. The faster you solve each level, the higher your score, which is tracked on ChocoRun’s Game Center leaderboards.
