Today’s leading Fresh iPhone app is great for people who like to spend their weekends taking in sports, especially for those who love being knowledgeable and spreading sports information to others. Hitpost lets you become a sports reporter for your favorite teams among your friends. Our next app, Grüvtron, is a great way for electronic music lovers to create music of their own. Then there’s Qvoid, a cube-based, challenging puzzle game, and Bean’s Quest, a 2-D platforming game with a lot of personality.
Hitpost Sports (iPhone, iPad) Free
Become your favorite sports team’s on-site reporter with Hitpost Sports, an app that lets you combine photos with information about sports events you’re attending to share. Hitsports is really simple: snap a photo, fill in some context, and send it out through various social networks to show everyone what you’re seeing.
A recent re-release of Hitpost to iOS devices (the company pulled earlier versions that were not receiving traction) adds even more capabilities to the app, allowing users to quickly share updates about their teams with others based on what they’re seeing using things like Twitter or Facebook. It also includes new social features that allow users to tap into what others are writing about their teams, so you can always stay apprised of what’s going on. And a new aggregation feature brings everything you need to know about all your favorite teams to one page.
Grüvtron (iPhone, iPad) $4.99
Grüvtron puts the ability to make electronic music loops in the palm of your hand. The app presents you with a grid, and each square on that grid represents a different musical option. When you touch a part of it, you activate the square in a loop, and by adding more and more squares and adjusting their timing, bam – you’re creating music.
The cool thing about Grüvtron is that excels at being both simple and complex at the same time. It is easy enough to use that anyone can just pick it up and start making music, but customization options allow you to change the notes and pitch that you’re using, adjust tempos, and basically create exactly the music you imagine in your mind, regardless of musical skill level. The app also contains some help options to put you on the path to creating your electronic vision, and you can export your finished products to your computer to share with others through email.
Qvoid (iPhone, iPad) $1.99
Puzzler Qvoid is all about special reasoning. The game sets you with a grid made up of cubes for each level, and each level has one or several cubes that are a certain color. You control a while cube sitting on top of the grid, and your purpose is to direct the cube over to the colored tiles, where it will absorb that color onto one of its faces. Then, you have to figure out how to navigate the cube to a corresponding colored tile and put the two colored faces together, clearing out the colors and solving the puzzle. It’s tougher than it sounds, especially when you try to solve the puzzle in as few moves as possible.
There are more rules than that, however. The game adds more colors or even combinations of colors to the mix, and once you clear a color from your white cube, the face that formerly was occupied by the color goes black and can’t be used again under normal circumstances. It’s a challenging puzzler that will have you thinking outside the box – get it?
Bean’s Quest (iPhone, iPad) $2.99
In Bean’s Quest, you play as a Mexican jumping bean named Emilio who can’t stop jumping. In each stage, he hops incessantly, so your controls merely direct him where to go – either to the left or the right in this 2-D side-scroller. As Bean goes, you’ll gather jewels and other such things to score points, trying to get the highest score you can on each of the game’s levels.
Bean’s Quest’s levels contain all kinds of physics-based obstacles, like seesaws, springs and rolling balls that you’ll have to navigate to reach the end. Each level also has a “perfect jump count,” which challenges you to move quickly and only take a certain number of hops to reach the end.
