Today’s leading Fresh App has a cool story about it – so cool, we decided it was worth a post of its own. Suffice it to say that the app is the brain child of an actual child: Owain Weinert, a 9-year-old who collaborated with PopCap Games’ 4th & Battery studio to create Allied Star Police. Read about it below along with Deadlock: Online, a two-stick shooter that supports 8-player multiplayer battles, and Zombie Gunship, in which you’ll man an AC130’s guns and annihilate many zombies. Finally, there’s Thrutu, an app that helps make phone calls more interactive.
Allied Star Police (iPhone, iPad) Free
A product of the mind of 9-year-old Owain Weinert and realized by 4th & Battery, the experimental studio division of Plants vs. Zombies maker PopCap Games, Allied Star Police is a side-scrolling shooter in which players position vehicles in one of four “lanes” in order to use them to take out enemy forces coming from the other side of the screen. Spending resources on your vehicles and determining where to place them is the key to victory.
The more enemies you take down, the more money you earn – which you can apply to more vehicles and upgrades, or bombs and other weapons you can use against your opponents. Since the game is a 4th & Battery release, it will stay free, too, so download it now and see what Owain considers his dream game.
Deadlock: Online (iPhone, iPad) Free
Two-stick shooter Deadlock is all about taking on other players. The game is a free-to-play online shooter, allowing you to do battle with up to seven other players at once in one of three online game modes. The premise of the game is pretty simple – shoot other players – but for one, the game is free for a limited time, and it has a solid 3-D look about it.
You get five maps in Deadlock and three online game modes in which to blast away at other players from around the world. As you earn kills, you’ll gain access to new weapons and equipment that allow you to customize your soldier and play to your strengths. Deadlock also packs Game Center support for leaderboards.
Zombie Gunship (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Zombies are attacking something (again), and it’s up to you to stop them (as usual). This time, though, rather than wielding a shotgun and finding yourself faced with a zombie horde, Zombie Gunship places you in an AC130 gunship, utilizing a powerful mounted gun and night vision technology to see the zombies approaching a mountain stronghold. Your task: Keep them from overrunning the stronghold and the people inside.
Zombie Gunship gives you access to three kinds of authentic AC130 weapons for taking down undead fiends, and you’ll need to switch between them strategically to destroy the horde. For each kill you rack up, our reward is cash that can be spent to upgrade your plane and thus do more damage.
Thrutu (iPhone) Free
Thrutu is an app that makes using your phone even more social. The app comes with five buttons when you download it, allowing you to quickly and easily share information with friends on your device. Hit the location button and you’ll be able to send your location information to a friend; tap Gallery and you can send a photo from your device’s Camera Roll to the person you’re talking to on a call while you’re still on the phone with them.
There aren’t many more uses for Thrutu, although it does give you the ability to do some cool things. Another button allows you to instantly send information on your Contacts to another user, and the Prod button allows you to “poke” another person by making their phone vibrate.
