Tax season is almost upon us, and if your taxes are a little bit on the simple side — you make less than $80,000 a year (or $100,000 if you’re married) and you don’t have any dependents — you can make them even simpler with TurboTax SnapTax. The “snap” in the title refers to the use of your iPhone’s camera. You snap a photo of your W-2 and the app pulls the relevant information off of it automatically.
Once you’ve entered your W-2, the app will prompt you with a few questions to get what it needs, and you should be pretty much ready to go. TurboTax will file both your state and federal taxes for $14.99, which you can pay in-app. If you’ve used TurboTax before and you’re happy with their service, this is a fast and easy way to get your taxes done without even having to do any math.
Showtime (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
This photography app is specifically designed to make transferring shots from your iPhone straight to your computer over the air, without the need for a cable connection. It also allows you to use your local Wi-Fi connection to display your photos on a bigger screen, like your computer or television, through the use of a browser-enabled device, a connected TV or PlayStation 3, for example.
While you’re viewing your photos using your Wi-Fi network, your iPhone and iPad function as remote controls for paging through images. The app has some features to make things faster and more efficient, too — like a bookmark for your device’s IP address, letting you get to your images immediately from a browser on the network without having to type anything in.
Camp Recipes! (iPhone, iPad) $1.99
Seven hundred campfire recipes adorn this app, making it great to take with you on your next outing — especially if your skill is limited to jamming food on sticks and holding it over a flame (like me). Camp Recipes lets you search through all its information with several different methods, including category, keyword and even cooking time.
Each recipe details what you’ll need to make it as far as ingredients and preparation. They’re also broken into different types, like short and fast recipes, for example, or meat or vegetable receipes. Camp Recipes even has recipes for survival, should you need them.
