The 83rd Academy Awards air at 8 p.m. EST on ABC on Feb. 27, so there’s still time to get into the spirit (and predict the winners) with a few handy apps from our Fresh Apps list today. Leading off is the official app of the awards, The Oscars, that gives a social networking slant to the biggest awards in entertainment. Your primary stop for Oscars information, The Oscars provides nominee lists for each award and information for all the films that got nods this year — and it also allows you to make your picks for each category and share them with friends using Facebook, Twitter and email. Once the awards are dolled out, you can track your prediction “scores” against the rest of the app’s community.
Hang on to The Oscars app through the rest of the year, and you can grab all kinds of Oscars information running up to the next awards season. The app keeps users up-to-date on Oscars news, as well as on any official Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences events taking place before next year’s show. This is the companion app that will get you ready (and keep you ready) for the Academy Awards.
Live From the Red Carpet (iPhone, iPad) Free
If you’re more concerned with what stars are wearing than what they’re winning, check out the E! Network’s Live From the Red Carpet app, which features live streaming video from the Oscars (and other marquis events), celebrity interviews and all kinds of other events coverage. It also features the “Glam Cam 360” feature, which focuses specifically on celebrity fashion on the Red Carpet.
The app is great for helping you keep up on celebrities. It features a celebrity news section that gets all kinds of stories to help stay updated, with access to tons of E! articles. There’s also a rundown of the nominees and winners at the Academy Awards, and highlights from the best and worst moments of the show.

How about a change of pace? Memory of Colors is something of a photo art exhibit on your iDevice. It’s a study of people and colors from all over the world, and features more than 1,300 portraits from 80 cultures and 12 countries, shot over the course of eight years by photographer Jaime Ocampo Rangel.
Memory of Colors lets you view and display its photos individually or in an endless slide show, and you can also convert the shots to wallpapers for your device. All the images come with additional description information, and you can shake your device to have the app randomize which photo you see.
