You’ve heard of checking-in to places, but how about checking-in to a TV show? Okay, sure — that’s been done. But what about checking into a TV show without entering any information, and instead letting the app absorb sound information and determine what you’re watching for you? That’s what IntoNow offers, and it’s at the top of our list for Fresh Apps today. Check it out below, along with a few other items that sound interesting.
IntoNow (iPhone, iPad) Free
A social networking app with one extremely cool feature, IntoNow is designed to identify TV shows you’re watching by listening to them. Hit the button in the app, and IntoNow “listens” to the show (kind of like Shazam or SoundHound for music), finds the information about the title and episode, and lets you funnel it to Facebook or Twitter and share it with others. The idea is to make watching TV a friendly experience.
In order to let you connect with friends, IntoNow lets you know when your friends are watching the same show as you, comment on what your friends are watching from within the app, and add friends using your contacts and searching by names as well as Facebook and Twitter. And the app also lets you access Netflix, IMDb and iTunes to get even more information about your shows.
Hotel Tonight update (iPhone) Free
Hotel Tonight is expanding its coverage with its recent update, from three of the United States’ biggest cities to six — Washington D.C., Chicago and Boston have been added to the service’s offers in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. That’s a pretty big deal, considering Hotel Tonight’s job is to get you same-day hotel bookings, and it purports to do so with savings of up to 70 percent.
Sign up with the service using the free app and you’ll also net an additional $25 off your first booking in six of the country’s biggest cities. And if you recommend Hotel Tonight to a friend, you get another 25 bucks knocked off when they use their $25 credit. And it’s all free — it would probably cost you money NOT to try this app.
Handoff (iPhone, iPad) $1.99
Ever surf the Internet and find the information you want, just as you need to run out the door? Handoff gives you the ability to quickly send a webpage to your mobile device for access when you’re away from your computer. And even more conveniently, if it’s traveling information you were looking at on your computer, Handoff has built-in support for the iOS map app — integrating your destination information straight to your phone.
Handoff uses a bookmarklet in your browser to enable you to click a button that jets your current page off to your phone. Once it arrives, you’ll receive a push notification so you can quickly access the information you sent along. You can do the same thing with a phone number on a website, and the app tracks everything you’ve sent to it, so you can find old information easily.
