We’ve got a couple of big updates for apps to lead the charge in today’s Fresh Apps — one that brings an iPad art-making app current with all the new advantages of iOS 4.2, and another that links social networking app GoWalla with its bigger competitors, making it even better. Read more about them below.
ArtRage update (iPad) $6.99
ArtRage has been around for a while, turning iPads into canvases. With the app’s variety of tools, you can use your finger to paint, draw, sample colors and do a number of other things. There are a ton of different art effects, ranging from water colors to air brushes, available inside.
The latest update for ArtRage brings the app up to speed with iOS 4.2, adding AirPrint support and multitasking to the available features. You can also now define the size of the canvas you’re working on — up to 1440 pixels square — plus there’s added zoom precision, and you can quickly sample colors in files to replicate them. That’s on top of stability and user interface improvements, as well.
GoWalla update (iPhone) Free
This location check in, photo-sharing social networking app is built around its users snapping shots when they attend events, to pair them with check-ins, not unlike you would use on different social networking services like Facebook and Foursquare. To make its functionality even better, Alamofire went ahead and updated GoWalla to link to Facebook and Foursquare, plus Tumblr.
In addition to checking in with friends and keeping up with what’s going on, you can also bookmark locations to revisit later, as well as flag those that are problematic while you’re on the go so your friends can avoid them later.
newsTube (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
YouTube makes it easy to watch random videos, but they aren’t exactly feeding your brain most of the time. newsTube, on the other hand, aggregates news videos together, so what you’re watching has some substance.
Videos are ranked generally by their relevance and popularity, and updated regularly. The app also includes Facebook and email sharing support, so whenever you see something worth watching, you can encourage others to watch it, too.
