Fresh iPhone Apps for Dec. 16: Google Voice and Bing updates, Cartoon Network Video

Two big free apps — Google Voice and Bing — just received some sweeping updates, and both have all new features because of it. They’re headlining our Fresh Apps list today because, well, they’re kind of a big deal. We’ve also found a cool free app that lets you watch (at least some of) Cartoon Network on your iPhone. Enjoy.

Google Voice update (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) Free

Here’s the biggest deal about the new additions to Google Voice: the app is now supported by the iPod Touch, allowing you to send SMS messages to any phone in the U.S. for free using a Wi-Fi connection, plus make calls with the app on newer iPods.

For the rest of us, Google has made a bunch of improvements to the app, including a “Do Not Disturb” mode to block incoming calls and messages, “Click2Call” calls on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and text forwarding. They’ve also made a bunch of fixes to streamline things and make the whole app run better.

Bing update (iPhone, iPad) Free

Another big update has just dropped, this time for search app Bing that includes additional functionality that links it to lots of different services, including Grubhub, Open Table, Facebook, Foursquare and more.

You can now use Bing to search for restaurants by location, the atmosphere or the food you want, and book tables using Open Table or takeout with Grubhub. You can check out businesses and places with Bing’s new “Streetside” feature, which works like Google Street View to see the actual places and buildings you’ll be heading to. And, you can check into services like Facebook and Foursquare now, without having to even leave the Bing search app.

Cartoon Network Video (iPhone) Free

You’re probably way ahead of me on this one — yup, Cartoon Network Video lets you watch Cartoon Network videos, but on your iPhone instead of your TV, using a Wi-Fi connection.

The app includes both full videos and clips for Cartoon Network shows in a big archive that you can search through and view on your iPhone. The app also includes information about the shows and program schedules, so you can plan to catch on TV whatever you can’t stream on your phone.
