Today’s leading Fresh iPhone App is a bit of a jack of all trades. Flava – Save Your Moments! works a lot like a photo album and scrapbook, but it’s also a journal, datebook, notepad and more, without the hassle of trying to save actual pieces of paper. Following it up is Extra Innings Mobile Instructor, an app that helps baseball players improve by shooting videos of them and allowing others to mark the videos up to identify aspects of play that need work. Hospital Havoc 2, a time management game, is the first of today’s games; we’ve also got Zen Wars, a game that’s a bit of a turn-based tower defense title that fans of the genre will enjoy.
Flava – Save Your Moments! (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Flava is basically a digital scrapbook of various forms, allowing users to capture and keep anything they find important in their lives. These can include daily journal entries in which you write down your thoughts, feelings and experiences, or a photo album with pictures you take. There are quite a few things you can save and organize in Flava (including music and video) allowing you to document your life without having to do any of the grunt work that goes with physical scrapbooking.
You can tag your Flava entries so you can search for them later, and if you choose, you can share things you save in the app via Facebook, Twitter and email. Flava will even function as a datebook or notepad, allowing you to save important information like links for later access.
Extra Innings Mobile Instructor (iPhone, iPad) $4.99
Baseball players will find a lot to love in Extra Innings Mobile Instructor, an app that uses your iOS device’s video capturing capability to help you improve your form. It’s great for coaches, who can use the app to shoot videos of their players, mark up that video and then send it to players’ devices or email addresses straight from within the app. The mark-up features include icons, the ability to free draw and other implements to help identify trouble spots in a players’ form.
In addition to analyzing a swing or a pitch on your own with Extra Innings, the app also includes the ability to send a video off for analysis by an Extra Innings professional. The feature is available through in-app purchase, but within 48 hours of making it, you’ll receive a detailed analysis of a video identifying problems a player might face. Even without the help of a pro, Extra Innings can help any player improve with just the help of someone willing to film him or her.
Hospital Havoc 2 (iPhone, iPad) Free
Time management sim Hospital Havoc is back, with better graphics and an easier interface in this sequel. Like the original, you play a doctor learning the ropes of hospital life and coordinating the treatment of patients as quickly as possible. In each stage, you’ll need to get patients into beds and treat them as fast as possible – diagnosing them, prescribing medicine, dispensing it and otherwise treating your patients with the help of a nurse. The entire game is fast-paced, requiring you basically to tap things in the right order and juggle a lot of elements all at the same time.
The more you play and the better you get at treating patients, the more skilled your doctor becomes, earning coins and muffins that you can use to pay for better equipment and power-ups to make your job easier. There are more than 100 levels of advancement through which to push your character, as well as leaderboards and achievements provided by Game Center.
Zen Wars (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
A fresh take on the classic tower defense game Rampart, Zen Wars requires players to defend their Chinese castles from the evil Lord Evilz by constructing cannons and fortress walls and firing away at Evilz’ attacking forces. The game is a sort of turn-based tower defense title, with each timed turn requiring players to rebuild their fortress walls, purchase new weapons and then fire away at the enemy before starting all over again.
Featuring a single-player campaign mode with great comic-strip delivery of its story, Zen Wars is a pretty fine time alone. It gets better, though – you can take on up to three other players in the game’s online multiplayer mode. There’s also Game Center support for achievements, leaderboards and voice chat.
