Why buy and sell online when you can make trades? That’s what happens on Swap.com, and now you can put those transactions together on your iDevice. Set up a Swap.com account and you can access it on the go, then set up swaps with your stuff and browse other people’s stuff, or cancel swaps that you’ve already set up.
The Swap app makes setting up your trades really easy. The app uses the iPhone’s camera as a bar code scanner, so you can grab DVDs, video games and books, scan them, and swap them. Once your Swap goes through, you can even email yourself the shipping labels to print from home.
SIPS Child (iPhone, iPad) $9.99
Parents with driving-age children might want to check out the pair of SIPS apps that just hit the iTunes App Store. The two apps talk to each other, allowing parents to add the app to their child’s iPhone and to their own. Then you can use your iPhone to monitor your child’s driving habits and make sure they stay safe.
The app uses the iPhone’s GPS capabilities to monitor where your kids are driving. SIPS sends you to receive alerts when the iPhone with the Child app breaks certain boundaries, so you know where your child is and how far they’re traveling, and when they go over a certain speed. The alerts keep coming until the driver returns to the boundary area, keeping parents up to date on where their young drivers are. You’ll need to download SIPS Parent as well, but that app is free.
Mozy (iPhone, iPad) Free
There are a lot of online services that allow users to back-up their files to servers over the Internet — the idea is that you don’t have to mess with external hard drives to protect your files, and if anything happens to your computer, your files are protected at a remote location, and vice versa. Mozy is one such service, and if you use it to back-up your files remotely, you also get the benefit of its free iOS app.
With the Mozy app, you can see and browse all the photos you’ve saved on the Mozy servers. You can search through everything you’ve saved to find specific files, and the app provides photos thumbnails so you can tell what you’re looking at, then download it to your device. Then you can email your files to others or publish some, like photos, on Facebook.
