Forget the $12 drinks, get the Cocktails@Home iPhone app

Going out for a night of drinks can be a budget buster, and do you really want to battle that 21-year-old co-ed for the bartender’s attention? With the help of the Cocktails@Home app (99 cents), you can get your drink on in the comfort of your living room.

Make a quick assessment of what you have tucked away in the liquor cabinet. If it is looking a bit bare, don’t sweat it. The Cocktails@Home app helps you put together drinks using the ingredients you do have.

Let’s say, for example, that you are staring at a hodge-podge of Irish Whiskey, Triple Sec, Vermouth, Clamato juice, cranberry juice, 7-Up, Pepsi, tonic and mint. Check off those items on the iPhone app’s ingredients list, and wait about two seconds.

Voila! You are presented with a nice long list of possible drinks, including a Mint Collins, Whiskey Sour, and a Gin Smash. Some we have heard of, some we haven’t – but it is always good to try new things, right?

The app does include a recipe bookmark, so if you come across something you would like to recreate another night, you can access it easily. The only downer? The design of the app lacks the Carrie Bradshaw “Sex in the City”-esque sophistication that is synonymous with cocktails.
