Flight+ offers travel pain relief on iPhone and iPad

Flying is a pain. No matter the destination, airport delays, missed connections and inclement weather all plague those trying to take off for work or play. There are a lot of iOS apps for frequent flyers, but none I’ve seen offers so much information in a better looking package than Flight+ for iPhone or iPad. Whether you you need to plan a single fight or you jet off daily, this app takes a lot of the guesswork – and stress – out of the journey.

Flight+ tracks fights. Just about any commercial flight in the world. You can enter a flight number if you have something booked, or search by airline, airport or city. The airmail-themed notebook-like interface lets you to select your flights, set push notifications and sync with Tripit accounts. But, there’s a lot more to Flight+ than just the basic flying facts.

The app has tons of real-time information, from departure and arrival times (and delays) to weather conditions on both ends. Once a flight is entered, Flight+ displays the flight path on a pinch-to-zoom Google map. You can track flights en route integrated with world clocks, get detailed forecasts and even check out the type of aircraft you’ll be boarding. There are also lots of sharing features, and the app syncs with your calendar.

The stand-out feature is that Flight+ doesn’t just track flights, it lets you peek right into airports. With a tap you can see photos of the inside and out, pore over detailed terminal maps, and peek at the real flight boards. And the interface is so inviting, it’s a pleasure to just browse and make fantasy plans. The only drawback is Flight+ is not universal. If you want it on both your iPhone and your iPad, you have to buy both for $2.99 and $4.99 app respectively. That said, the UIs are different with the iPhone app navigated by swipes while the iPad version uses tabs, and each designed to take best advantage of the device screen size.

Flight+ keeps track of favorite airlines and airports, saves previous flight details, personal notes and makes planning future travel not only easy, but also downright fun.
