Face it, if you want to get mobile coverage of ESPN’s X Games 17, this is basically your only option. But that dearth of coverage doesn’t mean ESPN simply slapped this app together. Not by any stretch. Like the rest of its apps, ESPN X Games 17 is well-thought-out and filled with all the info you could want on the upcoming X Games.
Their uniform design gives ESPN apps a leg up almost instantly. Because the ESPN family of apps all look fairly similar, finding the features you want is a breeze, and ESPN X Games 17 is no exception.
All of the navigation in ESPN X Games 17 is centered around a nine-button home screen with clearly labeled buttons, ensuring you’ll get the info you need quickly and easily. Users can see the schedule of events, a results page, bios on the competing athletes and many more features within one tap of opening the game.
The athlete bios are probably my favorite part of the app. Not only do you learn more about each of the competitors, but you can see which events they’re scheduled to take part in. The entire app carries this feel of synergy throughout, with the schedule page, for instance, listing the athletes scheduled for a particular event, which you can then click on to get to their individual bios.
If you were looking for a complaint just for the sake of one, I suppose it’s disappointing that there isn’t greater emphasis on videos from previous X Games, but as this app is geared toward the upcoming games, it seems reasonable that the focus is on the here and now and not on the past.
