Firefox has a new home on the iPhone

Eighteen days after being submitted to Apple’s App Store, the Firefox Home application is now available for free download.

A mobile variation of the Firefox Sync program, Firefox Home is not a competitor or replacement to the iPhone’s native Safari browser. Its primary function is to allow users to access their desktop activity and bookmarks, as well as open up tabs on their iPhones.

Explains the Firefox blog:

“Firefox Home uses your browser data, securely synced from Firefox on your desktop to the cloud, to let you search and browse quickly and efficiently. You can view the sites you want directly in Firefox Home, open them in Mobile Safari or share them with friends via email. Your Firefox data is private and only you have access to it.”

There is currently no Firefox browser app available for the iPhone/iOS. While Firefox Home was developed for the iPhone and iPod touch, it does display well in full-screen mode on the iPad. There is a Firefox browser available for Nokia phones and accessed via the Maemo operating system.

According to CNET, an Android version of Firefox is also in the works. Stay tuned to Appolicious for a full and comprehensive review of Firefox Home.
