Although I just re-upped my lease and am not currently faced with the arduous task of finding the perfect affordable abode, I still browse rental listings on occasion, just to see how rents currently stack up. New app, Trulia Rentals – Find Homes and Apartments for Rent for iPhone and iPod Touch, makes it easy to keep up on new listings without getting bogged down in for-sale only properties.
Using your current location, Trulia Rentals will pinpoint current rentals in your area. Newly-listed units will appear in green, while unviewed, older items will be black. Once you’ve viewed a listing it’ll change to grey so you won’t waste time looking at the same place multiple times. In each listing you’ll find photos (multiple images when available), rental info, and a contact form to get additional information or set up a showing. A pre-written message is provided, but you can edit it accordingly. An amenities finder will display nearby restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, banks and schools, which is particularly helpful if you’re looking in unfamiliar territory.
You can search by neighborhood (as long as you include the city name), GPS location or by zip code. Results can be viewed on a map or list format, and you can star listings to add to a favorites list. Searches can also be saved and although you’re prompted to create an account, it’s not required.
If you’re looking for a new living situation, definitely give Trulia Rentals a shot. The app might be light on listings for your area, but its user-friendliness will at least help make the process slightly less painful.
