FIFA World Cup, 100 Rogues lead iPhone Games of the Week

Kicking off this week’s best iPhone games is FIFA World Cup. While the game is no replacement for the real thing next month in South Africa, it is head and shoulders above 100 Rogues, Domino’s Adventure and other quality titles released in recent days.

1. FIFA World Cup

The second iPhone game soccer release from Electronic Arts is quite similar to the first, last summer’s FIFA 10. The biggest difference when it comes to Flick Baseball Pro ($2.99), and though we still don’t have the perfect baseball game, it very well may be the most complete. The game uses fictional teams (34 in all) and players as well as the option to edit both. The players also have unique skills, so it will be easier to get hits with your All-Star first baseman than will be with your pitcher. As far as controls, both pitching and batting use tilt controls to aim and on-screen touching. Fielding isn’t entirely computer-controlled either, as you can pick which base you want to throw to and there’s a timing control to catch pop-ups. This is very much an arcade game, both in game play and many of the results, but no matter which way you look at it, this is a step in the right direction for iPhone baseball games.
