My favorite iPhone games are simple but demand a little strategy. If you like Flood-It!.
Flood-It!, on the surface, just wants the player to pick colors. The game starts as a board with colored blocks, and your goal is to turn the board into a single color, like a virtual Rubik’s Cube.
Starting from the top left corner, you select from six colors at the bottom of the screen to change your color area. Any blocks of color you picked will merge, bringing you closer to making the board one solid color. The diabolical part is that you only get a certain number of moves to complete the board before it’s game over.
That’s the essence of Flood-It!, and I think it’s a great game. There are tweaks, such as changing the board size to limit 22 moves for the small board to 36 moves for the large board, but that’s just icing on an already tasty cake. Flood-It! comes in handy when you have little idle time, such as waiting for a bus. A round of Flood-It! can take as little as 30 seconds.
The game’s stats tracker shows your best round, the number of games you’ve won or lost and an overall win percentage. My 33 percent win ratio doesn’t mean this app isn’t good, it just means I need to play more to get better. And trust me, I will.
