As an absolutely terrible golfer, I can use an iPhone app that advertises itself as a golfer’s best friend. While the $20 TeeShot application for the iPhone does have a few handy features, I would not go so far as to call the app a best, or even good, friend.
When you get down to it, TeeShot is really just a fancy way for you to chart your golf progress. The app allows you to keep track of loads of stats – including strokes, putts, fairways made, sand saves – very easily. The usefulness this app will provide to regular golfers who want to know how well they have played a hole in the past cannot be overstated.
Another positive is the ability to download courses from TeeShot’s website. New courses are constantly added and the app also includes a handy “create course” feature that is also very user-friendly.
But ease of use was about all I got out of the app. TeeShot claims to be able to use GPS to measure shot distances, but this was not something I could get to work with any frequency. Normally, I chalk that kind of thing up as user error, but I read enough reviews with similar complaints to believe it is more of a hit-or-miss feature.
The real crux of this app for me was the price. At 20 bucks, this is a very expensive way to keep track of my golf game, no matter how fast and easy it is to use.
If money is not an issue, then you probably will be pleased with TeeShot. Personally, I think the price is more than a little high for a digital scorecard.
