This week’s top iOS applications features a mix of updates and newcomers to the App Store. Leading off is an old favorite, Evernote, which received a substantial redesign. Our others include apps for task management, counting, surfing, and Dunkin’ Donuts patrons. Sounds like the making of a pretty good selection to me!
Evernote update (Free)
Evernote streamlined their notetaking app with their latest update. Now, a new home screen gives users quicker access to the actual features they most want to use, like notes, notebooks and tags. The quick notes buttons on the home screen will allow for quicker notetaking than ever before. Meanwhile, the iPad version of Evernote has added a list of “recently..” features so users can quickly access their recently viewed, edited and created notes right on the home screen.
Clear update ($1.99)
I know, Clear is another in a long line of list making task-oriented apps that are supposed to make your life easier to manage. But Clear added some features in its latest update that make it worth another look. The app now works alongside iCloud, so you can share task lists between your MacBook and iPhone seamlessly. That’s a pretty nice feature if you’ve been using Clear for Mac and want a mobile solution, or vice versa. The app’s other new features aren’t too bad either. You can now share more quotes within the app, switch lists quickly, and paste text into Clear and have it auto-format into a list.
Dunkin’ Donuts update (Free)
For anyone in the Northeast and a portion of the Midwest, Dunkin’ Donuts is serious business. The latest update to the bakery’s flagship app includes all new mobile offers and coupons, which is exactly the kind of brand-to-user engagement that app businesses should be pushing. Additionally, users can now create limited-edition seasonal gift cards, so they can give with a holiday spirit when they’re stuffing stockings. Not that including this on the apps of the week is a hint for anyone close to me. No sir.
Kount.ly ($0.99)
Kount.ly will appeal to a very special sort of obsessive person. If you ever kept a list of every CD in your collection, this app is for you. Kount.ly counts the things you want it to count. How many movies you’ve seen, drinks you’ve had, whatever you want, it counts. The app doesn’t just count things, though, it charts them too. It makes a handy ledger noting when you’ve added a new tally to a count and then charts it on a graph for you.
Breaks update ($2.99)
Those about to surf, we salute you with Breaks, an app that provides weather forecasts for over 4,700 beaches so you’re never caught unprepared in a sudden storm. The app covers the wind, swell and general outlook for the day and also contains summarized info for each beach in the app. The app also syncs with Instagram so you can document your day at the beach.
