Worms 2: Armageddon ($4.99) is the next installment of the popular hit by Team17 Software. With new weapons, multiplayer support and customization options, it’s even more fun than the original game.
If you’re unfamiliar with the game, the objective is to defeat all the worms on the other team by using the most over-the-top weapons such as the bazooka, homing missile and dynamite. It’s a turn-based strategy game, so there’s no run-and-gun chaos. You have a set time limit to move your worm and take your shot at the enemy. You can choose any weapon you’d like, but you’ll need to use a weapon suitable to the situation. For example, you might not want to use a missile to shoot an enemy that’s standing right next to one of your own worms. You’d take out your teammate, too. In that situation, maybe a close up shotgun approach would be more appropriate.
The controls are simple. You tap the left or right sides of the screen to move your worm. After selecting your weapon, you slide your finger to aim, and press the fire button to take the shot. Each weapon includes a brief explanation of how to fire it. Sometimes you need to hold the fire button down to select how far it will travel.
After you’ve taken your shot, the enemy’s health will be depleted, and your turn will end. You can then sit back and watch the enemy attack your worms.
The graphics definitely give a cartoonish feel to the game, but it fits so well. The sound effects are high-quality, and the worms offer some humorous yelps. This is absolutely one of the most entertaining titles available for the iPad, and I strongly recommend checking it out.
